Pool Saving Tips
Don't let your pool drain your wallet

Picture this: One bright, sunny afternoon, you notice that your pool water is a little cloudy. But you’re busy, so you run out the door and make a mental note to check the pool when you have time. A few days later, you see a green tinge in the water, along with a few algae blooms. You might even notice a not-so-pleasant aroma wafting in off the waves.
By the time your pool gets to this point, it can be slightly difficult – and a little costly – to correct. The best way to keep your pool from taking a dive is to focus on prevention. And we’ve got a few tips to make it extra easy!
Keep your filters clean
Many people don’t realize that the most expensive part of maintaining a pool is the equipment – specifically the pump. It takes a lot of energy to circulate and filter all that pool water to keep it clean and safe for swimming.
Clogged filters make the pumps work harder, use more energy and can cause damage that leads to a high-cost replacement. To prevent pump motor burnout and extend the life of your equipment, check and clean your pool filters once a month – especially during the height of pool season!
Use HTH™ Pool Care Filter Cleaner to clean and prolong the life of your filters and boost filtration efficiency. Got a D.E. filter? Try the HTH™ Pool Care D.E. Filter Aid to keep your filter working at maximum performance.
Set a weekly routine
- TEST & BALANCE your pool water twice a week so that you know exactly what your water needs to stay balanced.
- SANITIZE your pool once a week to prevent bacteria and germ buildup and to keep your pool clear, clean and healthy for swimmers.
- SHOCK your pool weekly to quickly add chlorine that prevents bacteria and algae. Even better? HTH™ Pool Care Shock Advanced is a Cal Hypo formula that prevents chlorine lock, so you don’t have to go through the hassle of partially draining and refilling your pool.
- USE AN ALGAECIDE once per week all summer long to keep the algae away. Our favorite option is HTH™ Pool Care Algae Guard Advanced – it kills and prevents all types of algae!
We’ve outlined a more detailed weekly routine in this helpful article.
Keep your wallet
“in the green”
Once you understand how basic pool care and regular maintenance can prevent small issues from becoming big problems, you’ll confidently keep the green out of your pool – and in your wallet, where it belongs.
It doesn’t have to be difficult or overly expensive. Staying on top of it now will help you keep your pool in tip-top shape for many summers to come!
