How are HTH Brilliance Cal Hypo Chlorine Tabs different from my current trichlor tabs?
Traditional trichlor tablets contain over 50% stabilizer by weight, while HTH Brilliance Cal Hypo Chlorine Tabs contain no stabilizer. As a result, they do not contribute to over-stabilization, or chlorine lock, and the issues associated with this condition.
Can I use these tabs in my current feeder?
No, HTH Brilliance Cal Hypo Chlorine Tabs dissolve differently than traditional trichlor tabs and cannot be used in an existing trichlor feeder. Adding these tablets to a feeder or floater that contains trichlor tablets may cause a dangerous chemical reaction. Instead, they can be safely used in your skimmer basket or with the HTH Brilliance Floater, which is specifically designed for these tabs.
What is chlorine lock?
Chlorine lock occurs when traditional trichlor tablets are used regularly, leading to excessive cyanuric acid (over-stabilization) in the water. This condition reduces the effectiveness of chlorine as a sanitizer, potentially making the water unsafe, causing cloudiness, and encouraging algae growth. The only solution for chlorine lock is to partially drain your pool.
How will these tabs affect my water balance?
HTH Brilliance Cal Hypo Chlorine Tabs have a slightly high pH, which can be managed by periodically using HTH pH Down. Unlike the extremely acidic trichlor tablets, these tabs will not significantly lower pH or alkalinity, reducing the risk of damage to your pool surface and equipment.
