How to Use

How to Use

Why You Should Use This Product: Shock Ultra is a concentrated, all‑in‑one calcium hypochlorite (cal‑hypo) shock that raises chlorine levels quickly, kills bacteria and algae, prevents stains and scale, and helps restore clear, sparkling water. It does not add cyanuric acid (CYA), helping prevent chlorine lock.

Before Use: Test pool water and adjust total alkalinity and pH before application. Always add chemicals separately and keep the pump running.

Application Instructions

Use the entire contents of the bag once opened. Do not use this product in a floater or feeder.

Add this product during evening hours while the pump is running. Broadcast evenly over a wide area of the pool, preferably in the deepest part.

If any granules settle on the pool floor, brush to disperse until fully dissolved. Undissolved granules may bleach or damage pool surfaces.

Do not enter the pool until free available chlorine levels return to 1–4 ppm.

Weekly Shock Treatment

For routine maintenance or to address cloudy or dull water, shock the pool once per week.

Add 1 bag of this product per 16,750 gallons of pool water.

Algae Control

For visible algae, apply the recommended shock dosage as close to algae growth as possible. Brush algae areas immediately after treatment and repeat shock treatment if algae persists.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What makes HTH Shock Ultra different from standard pool shock?

HTH Shock Ultra is a fast-dissolving, high-concentration formula that provides maximum chlorine impact for severely green, cloudy, or neglected pools. Its rapid dissolution means it starts working faster and allows faster re-entry time after treatment.

  • What makes HTH Shock Ultra different from other HTH shock products?

HTH Shock Ultra is the brand's multi-functional, fast-dissolving shock formula. It is engineered for maximum chlorine delivery in the shortest time—this product also clarifies, prevents algae, helps minimize stains and scale formation, and softens the water.

  • How quickly does HTH Shock Ultra dissolve in pool water?

All HTH shock products are formulated for rapid dissolution—they begin dispersing within minutes of being added to water. This fast action means the chlorine starts working immediately, which is critical when dealing with a serious algae bloom or contaminated water that needs immediate treatment.

  • How do I use HTH Shock Ultra to clear a severely green pool?

For a severely green pool, balance pH to 7.2–7.6 first because high pH dramatically reduces shock effectiveness. Add 2–3 lbs of Shock Ultra per 16,750 gallons, pre-dissolved in a bucket of water. Run the filter continuously for 24–48 hours, brush all surfaces every 8 hours, then vacuum settled debris. Add algaecide once chlorine drops to 1–4 ppm. A second treatment may be needed for black or mustard algae.

  • Does HTH Shock Ultra work faster than regular pool shock?

All HTH shock products are formulated to dissolve quickly and start working immediately. HTH Shock Ultra contains additional ingredients that clarify, treat algae, prevent stain and scale formation, and soften the water. For serious algae or contamination problems, the speed of chlorine delivery matters—fast-dissolving shock starts killing bacteria and oxidizing algae sooner, which translates to visibly faster results.

  • Is HTH Shock Ultra safe for vinyl-liner and saltwater pools?

Yes. HTH Shock Ultra is compatible with vinyl-liner, fiberglass, plaster, and saltwater pools. For routine use, Shock Ultra can be added directly to the pool with the pump running. For severe green-pool treatment, pre-dissolve it in a bucket of water as directed on the product label.

  • How much HTH Shock Ultra do I need for my pool?

For routine shocking, use one bag per 16,750 gallons. For green or cloudy water, double the dose. For severe green or black algae or a fully neglected pool, use triple the standard dose. Always read the label for exact dosing. Test after 24 hours and repeat if the chlorine has been fully consumed while treating the algae.
