Cloudy Water

The Problem

Cloudiness is small particles in the water that are not removed by filtration or oxidation. The most common causes of cloudy water are poor filtration and/or circulation, buildup of organic contaminants, algae growth, high pH, high Total Alkalinity (TA), or a combination of these.

Recommended solutions

For each pool water problem, there's an easy solution with HTH™ Pool Care products! Here's how to solve these common cloudy pool water culprits:

Poor filtration: Check filter operation and clean filter with HTH™ Pool Care Filter Cleaner per label directions. Circulate the pool water at least 8 hours per day.

High pH or TA: Use HTH™ pH Down to lower pH and/or TA back to the recommended ranges.

Organic contaminants or early algae growth: Test the pH of the pool water and adjust to a range of 7.2-7.8 using either HTH™ Pool Care pH Up or HTH™ Pool Care pH Down. Wait at least one hour before jumping in to swim again.

Preventative maintenance

To keep your pool water clear and swimmable, the easiest way is to keep up with weekly maintenance. Here are the best ways to retain brilliant pool water with HTH™:

• Shock treat the pool weekly with HTH™ Pool Care shock products
• Maintain TA in the range of 60-120 ppm
• Maintain pH in the range of 7.2-7.8
• Check and clean filter twice a year
